The Josie dress

Christmas season is in the house! Well, I mean, kind of, since we haven't put our tree up yet... :) But when it comes to sewing it's all Christmas outfits and gifts around here. Have you started your Christmas sewing yet?

Today I am joining the Merry Modkid Tour, hosted by lovely Courtney who blogs over Sweeter than Cupcakes for Modkid. On this tour we are showcasing patterns by Patty Young, the pattern maker behind Modkid. Although I have a few of her patterns I have to confess this is my first time sewing one up! And I can tell you that it won't be the last! I loved making this dress.

Pattern
Josie dress, a pattern by Modkid

Fabric
The fabric recommendations on this pattern are: quilting cottons, shirtings, voiles, gauzes, lawns, linens. But since it is already very cold around here
I ended up opting for a warmer fabric. I love (love!) using corduroy for Fall/Winter outfits so I grabbed this navy blue baby wale corduroy and a floral baby wale corduroy that were on my stash.

Details
I love that this dress is an a-line dress with retro style. That front gore and the wrap-around side tabs makes it suitable for color blocking or fun print combos.
It closes at the back with slit and a single button. It is not lined, thus all the seams are exposed.
This pattern is available in sizes 2T to 10.

I was going to make flutter sleeves but these cap sleeves  actually allow for layering with long sleeve shirts and blouses underneath so I made the pattern as is. It is a great dress pattern for this season!

I couldn't help to add a blue lace detail on the front seams. It was either that or piping. :)

I have made a size 5 for this cheeky 4 year-old who was very active during all the photo shoot for this blog post, as you have probably already noticed. :) The fit is spot on!

This is an easy and rather quick sew. Perfect for confident beginners!

I will be making more of these for sure. It is one of my new favorites!

  5. What a sweet dress on a sweet girl :) The dress totally works in corduroy. Such lovely colours :) The pattern seems to be straight forward so it won't be difficult to line it if one wanted to :) No Christmas sewing here until curtains are finished... which is starting to feel like no christmas sewing this year at all hahah
